If you get only five hours of sleep or less a night, you're doubling your chance of dying of a heart attack. This eye-opening conclusion (which is more than enough to keep you up at night) comes from a study by British scientists more than ten thousand civil servants over an eight-year period. Those who snoozed less than five hours were much more likely to develop cardiovascular problems and to die prematurely. Too much slumber isn't any better. People who slept more than eight hours a day also died at twice the normal rate.
